Whoever has actually endured spider and varicose veins recognizes that at the very worst they are able to cause intense severe pain and then at best they might be extremely irritating. Although most frequent in older women, spider and varicose vein abnormalities generally are a serious problem caused by the blocked blood circulation. Usually having the appearance of dark red, purple or blue in color, those that appear on your legs are often due to additional stress and pressure from standing or sitting throughout the day. When the problem gets worse these veins appear to begin protruding from beneath the skin. When you realize precisely how severe an ailment they are, you will want to know how to get rid of spider veins.

  1. QUESTION:
how do i get rid of veins on my legs?
i always cross my legs, always! and i get veins from it, and they look horrifying and i need a cream of something to get rid of them, any idea's ?

    • ANSWER:
You can cover with makeup or spray tan, or have surgery. That's about it.

However, if you only get them when you cross your legs, stop crossing your legs if it bothers you. Once you get old enough, unless you're completely vain, you won't care what your legs look like ... ;-)

  2. QUESTION:
How can i get rid of veins on my legs?
Last week i noticed i have little red viens on my legs , and Im only 14. Is there anyway to get them off.
    Please help.

    • ANSWER:
They are spider veins you dont need to see a dermatoligst over that...geeze you people. All you need to do is either wrap the spots at night with an ace bandage so they have support or wear panty hose that are semi tight yet confortable while you sleep.

Also do not cross your legs and be aware of what you eat like pop (even diet) and energy drinks and excess sugars. All of thses hinder your circulation. Also you can take 1 capsule of capsicum a day (its hot peppers in a capsule) to increase your circulation. Youre young so it shouldnt take very long to fix unless you just eat a bunch of junk food.

  3. QUESTION:

how do i get rid of visible veins on my legs?
i have these embarrasing veins on my legs. i pretty young, so i wear shorts a lot, but i dont like to. if there is any way to get rid of them i will most likly do it.

    • ANSWER:
You should talk to your doctor or dermatologist and have them look at them. I've had veins on my legs nearly my whole life and I'm also young. The doctor told me that sitting cross-legged can cause them to worsen, but that the only way to get rid of mine was surgery where they remove the veins. But you should ask your doctor and see if she has any suggestions. I've just learned to ignore them and in the summer, with a slight tan, they aren't as obvious.

  6. QUESTION:
How can I get rid of the visible veins on my legs?
I am fifteen years old, and I can see the veins through my skin on my hips and legs. I also bruise very easily. Is there some type of medicine or something that I can use to get rid of that? I am afraid that they might turn out looking like the veins that stick out on my moms legs, and I want to have pretty, bruise and vein free legs. So, any type of medicine or something I can use that is okay for my age?

    • ANSWER:
Your iron may be low.next time you go to a doctor ask him to test it. If you were older, I would tell you to buy compression hose from a medical supply store. My mom had vericose veins and I now wear the stockings. I wish I had started wearing them in my 20s. They really do prevent the blood from pooling in your calves. If you ever have a job where you have to stand alot, get some hose. They cost about for knee highs and last a few months.

  7. QUESTION:
How to get rid of thread veins on the legs?
My mum has thread veins around her ankles and would like to know if anyone has tried anything that actually works. She can't afford anything too expensive and doesn't need surgery so any other advice would be appreciated. Thank you in advance :D

  8. QUESTION:
how do i get rid of the veins on yur legs?
im 13 soo i cant surgery to get rid of them and besides whereing jeans from hiding them.. how can i get rid of them???

    • ANSWER:
im 18 and have the same problem.
I know my mum uses this stuff its kind of like a face cream in a little bottle thing. then you just rub it on, you cant notice and there ya go :)
if you need to put sunscreen on with it, mix the colour into the sunscreen. I guess that normal face cream would do the same, but Im going to warn you that you might have to pick up a different colour from your face, match the colour to your legs. Best thing to do is pick the colour that is your natural colour, not after a tan or anything.

  9. QUESTION:
How to get rid of th splotchiness/showing veins on my legs?
I work really hard to keep my legs fit so that I can wear cute skirts and shorts and bathing suites, but I have iron deficiency and my veins show and it's REALLLY grose.

Are their any moisturizers or lotions I can take that'll get rid of the showing veins? Thanks :)

    • ANSWER:
No, there are creams for 'spider veins' (broken capillaries) but they rarely work.
Your legs will look better with a tan, the veins will show less, so use fake tan if you are pale. Also you could use a waterproof make - up but it would be tiresome to apply and may rub off on your clothes.
If all else fails, wear sheer tights, they always make legs look good.

ive actually heard of laser treatments and cream (fake tan isnt the only thing..love)

    • ANSWER:
The important thing to remember is that millions of other is the UK have 'spider veins', or medically referred to as varicose veins. There is no natural remedy to combat this condition, particularly due to them actually being veins. You should go to your GP to ask about them as they can be removed surgically. This can either involve 'stripping' the affected vein, which completely removes it, CHIVA, which involves reducing the blood supply to that vein, there are also other types of removal but these two are the main operations performed. Healing rates are fairly quick and the surgery is quite simple and quick.

The source I've provided you with should give you further info.

  21. QUESTION:
How to get rid of spiders veins?
I have alot of spider veins on my legs, and i dont know how to get rid of them, so how can i??

    • ANSWER:
Over the counter topical treatments that boost vitamin k can also work. A daily dosage of vitamin K vitamins can also prove beneficial.

Massage a treatment made from 2 drops of Cypress Oil and 1 cup of Safflower oil into the areas affected by Spider Veins. Massage in the mixture 1-2 times daily.

There is also another treatment called Sclerotherapy. Sclerotherapy can range from 0 to 0 per session and again, multiple sessions are required. Sclerotherapy involves a tiny needle that is injected directly into your spider vein. I've heard that it is a painless procedure and is performed by a plastic surgeon. Just like laser it will depend on how bad your spider veins are to determine how many sessions you will need.

      Good luck!

    Getting rid of veiny legs?
I am 15 years old, quite skinny, and fair skinned. Recently I realized that the veins on my legs were prominent and blue. Not vericose veins though. Any tips on how to get rid of their appearance? thanks.

    • ANSWER:
It`s because you are excercizing too much without eating enough. When you excercize a lot your veins become enlarged to get more blood to the muscles. When you are skinny they show up even more. What you have to do is think prehistoric and use your body as it was meant to be used. Prehistoric humans would only excercize to run down prey maybe 3 times a week. And then they would eat like kings. What you are doing it sounds like is running down prey everyday and eating like a bird.

  25. QUESTION:
what's best way to get rid of vericose vein on your legs?
Other than laser. how to also prevent it from occuring in futre?

    • ANSWER:
varicose veins are caused by long periods of sitting ar standing where blood stays in veins for periods of times and causes those veins to expand and possible break. the only remedy is to stay active since veins cannot move blood by themselves they are positioned in between muscles and when those muscles are worked it pushes the blood up and back to the heart. no treatment for already present veins just exercises. if your are confined to a chair or bed you need to do a range of motion on both legs about every two hours, which consists of moving leg like being on a bicycle and flexing both feet like mashing a gas pedal. this should help with future problems.

      Hi,
I used to have pretty bad cellulite which only got worse after I get pregnant. I had it mostly around my inner thighs and bottom and a bit on my tummy as well. I tried eating more healthy food and did a lot of exercise as well which friends and family members recommended but my skin was still lumpy and floppy. I then recently read an article by a lady who claimed to have got rid of her cellulite by using a particular cream. I tried it and it worked pretty well. It took a couple of weeks but my skin had improved a lot and I managed to get rid of my cellulite completely. You can read more about the lady's article at the link below:

  32. QUESTION:
How can i get rid of the veins on the back of my legs?
I've seen creams online that swear to get rid or reduce the appearence of the veins, very tempted but unsure if they wrk.

I have been to my GP to check if they are of health risk but he seemed remote and not very bothered. He said i could pay for laser treatment if they bothered me. They seem to be crawling up the backs of my thighs now and its depressing, I cant afford treatment and it scares me, the laser option doesnt seem to bad the other was to have the veins removed :( - im a wimp. I'm 24 and i about a size 12-14 i think i'm probs a stone over weight and i'm running and swimming more than ever. I feel this might improve circulation.
    What should i do???

    • ANSWER:
They don't do any harm to you thankfully, although unsightly (I've got them and I'm 22), there is no reason to be worried about them, but if they do bother you I'd save up to get them removed by laser surgery. It's only later in life that they can develop into varicose veins where you would have to have them removed due to the vein being damaged and painful to walk with but for now don't worry.

How do I get rid of/ prevent spider veins?
I am 21, and I am starting to get little purple veins showing on my legs, not on my calves, on the upper half of my legs. I am regular weight.

    • ANSWER:
The only way I know to get rid of them is by a cosmetic procedure. You can cover them up with spray on tans or reduce the appearance by just getting a tan, but to permanently remove them I believe requires a cosmetic procedure. There are many homepathic remedies out there, but I haven't found any that really work. I started getting them when I was very young also.

Varicose veins are large, raised, swollen blood vessels that twist and turn. They usually develop in the legs.

Spider veins are smaller, red, purple and blue vessels that are also twisted and turning. Spider veins are easily visible and are found just under the skin. Like varicose veins, they are most often seen on the legs.

What Causes Varicose Veins and Spider Veins?

A number of factors predispose a person to varicose and spider veins. These include:

Heredity (passed on from a parent to a child through genes)
Occupations that involve a lot of standing, such as seen among nurses, beauticians, teachers and factory workers
      Obesity
      Hormonal influences during pregnancy
The use of birth control pills
      Post-menopausal hormonal replacement
      A history of blood clots
Conditions that cause increased pressure in the abdomen including tumors, constipation and externally worn garments like girdles

Other reported causes include trauma or injury to the skin, previous venous surgery and exposure to ultraviolet rays.

Who Is Affected by Varicose Veins and Spider Veins?

Varicose veins and spider veins develop more often in women than in men. They increase in frequency with age. An estimated 30% to 60% of adults have varicose veins or spider veins.

What Are the Symptoms of Varicose Veins and Spider Veins?

Many patients with varicose veins complain of pain, described as an aching or cramping in the legs. Other common symptoms include tiredness, restlessness, burning, throbbing, tingling or heaviness in the legs. Pain caused by varicose veins is usually relieved by elevating the legs or by wearing support hose.

In women, symptoms may be worse during certain parts of the menstrual cycle or during pregnancy. Patients also may develop swelling, ulcers (large sores), and an increase in the pigmentation or darkening of the color of their skin, especially in the ankle region. Occasionally, varicose veins and spider veins can form a painful blood clot with inflammation of the vein called thrombophlebitis.

What Are the Treatment Options for Varicose Veins and Spider Veins?

Treatment options are many and include:

Wearing support stockings. The most conservative approach is simply to wear properly-fitting support hose, especially when the veins cause painful or uncomfortable symptoms. These stockings can generally be purchased at any surgical supply store and at some pharmacies. They come in below-the-knee, above-the-knee and pantyhose styles.
Making lifestyle changes. Good skin hygiene, weight loss (if needed), and walking can help treat varicose veins and spider veins.
Sclerotherapy. This procedure, which has been available since the 1930s, uses a highly concentrated saline (salt) solution or a specially made detergent that is injected directly into the vein, causing the vein to disappear gradually over 3 to 6 weeks. The procedure is simple, relatively inexpensive and can be performed in an outpatient setting.
Endovenous laser treatment. A small laser fiber is inserted into the vein so that pulses of laser light can be delivered inside the vein, which causes the vein to collapse. The procedure is done as an outpatient under local anesthesia.
Radiofrequency occlusion. During this procedure, a small catheter is inserted into the vein to deliver radiofrequency energy to the vein wall, causing it to heat, collapse and seal shut. The procedure is generally done in an outpatient or in-office setting and may be done under local anesthesia.
Surgery. Surgical techniques to treat varicose veins include ligation (tying off of a vein) and stripping (removal of a long segment of vein) and ambulatory phlebectomy, which allows for the removal of large surface veins through very small incisions that do not need stitches. Surgery may be performed using local, spinal or general anesthesia. Most patients return home the same day as the procedure. Surgery is generally used to treat large varicose veins.
Lasers and intense pulsed light. These devices use heat energy to selectively damage or destroy abnormal veins. An advantage of these treatments is that no needles or sclerosing solutions are required; however, there may be some minor discomfort. Side effects do occur, including discoloration or staining and blister formation. Examples include Vasculight and PhotoDerm.

Not all patients need treatment for their varicose veins or spider veins. Many people have no pain or other symptoms. For these individuals, no treatment is necessary, unless they want the veins removed for cosmetic reasons.

Will My Insurance Cover the Cost of Treatment?

Many insurance companies do cover the cost of treating varicose veins, but generally not spider veins. Check with your insurance company to determine which treatment option may be covered under your plan.

Hi, I have had this problem too. I'm afraid Varicose veins don't go away without surgery, laser treatment or foam injections. To help prevent them I would suggest
      - not standing for long periods
      - to put your feet up as much as possible
      - lose any excess weight
      - don't have hot baths
      - take lots of gentle exercise such as swimming, walking etc.
      - support tights can help too

Do those saline injections really get rid of spider veins?
I have a ton on my legs and I am in my opinion too young to be getting them - especially when I dont even have kids. How do I get rid of them?

    • ANSWER:
Dr. Perricone's line has a product that is formulated for spider veins. So I went to Nordstrom to purchase it. And lady at the counter told me that there is no product that will help to completely get rid of them. And she suggested to take Vitamin C that contain Citrus Bioflavonoid Complex. Look on the back for supplement fact/ingredients. Bioflavonoids help to minimize spider veins. That what I do and it helps.

  46. QUESTION:
How can I get rid of my Varicose Veins?
I have very prominent veins on one of my legs, not painful but they do look awful.I would like to have them removed but how long does the process take and is it painful.I am also concerned beacuse I am overweight and would this prevent them from doing a operation.
I have lost 3 stone but I have at least another 5 to go before I reach goal

    • ANSWER:
      Depending on the patient:
      1) stripping out the vein
      2) closing it from the inside using either a laser or radiofrequency
      3) interrupting the flow with phlebectomies
      4) injection with a chemical that will scar the vein (sclerotherapy)

As with any procedure, make sure that the person treating you is experienced.

I recently had a baby and have noticed some spider veins appearing on my legs. Can anyone help and tell me how to get rid of them or how I can decrease them?

    Thanks in advanced!

    • ANSWER:
I can't remember the exact name but I remember this product being advertised on TV, it's like a foundation lotion thing for your body and it hides stuff like that really well. Or you can go to the pharmacy and ask for a product of varicose veins.

  48. QUESTION:
    Getting rid of spider veins.?
Is laser surgery the only way to get rid of spider veins? I have really white legs and purple spider veins on just my left leg, and I'm sick of them. How expensive is it to get them removed, is it painful, and is it usually permanent?
Unfortunately tanning is out of the question because I've already had skin cancer removed from one leg. Has anyone heard that grapefruit seed extract can help?

    • ANSWER:
Sclerotherapy, or injections, are another option. Sclerotherapy would cost about 0 per session and laser treatments cost about 0 per session. Both would permanently remove the veins that you see. You may get more, however, if you have a deeper situated vein that is feeding the surface veins.

  49. QUESTION:
how to get rid of thread veins and why am i getting them?
i think they're thread veins anyway. i have a few on the tops of my leg and some on the side of my stomac. im not overweight or anything and i never have been.

    • ANSWER:
Thread veins are tiny blood vessels on the nose, cheeks and legs. Whether you call them thread veins, spider veins or whatever, they are basically the same condition - enlarged tiny blood vessels, easily visible through the skin.

Thread veins on the legs are usually the result of varicose veins and sadly, often appear as early as the mid twenties, although the varicose veins themselves may not be obvious.

If your mother, father or grandparents had varicose veins, you may inherit that tendency. The weakness in the valves becomes obvious when pressure increases within the interior of the veins, and can affect both men and women. The tendency to develop varicose veins, and therefore thread veins, increases with age, and this is simply due to the effect of walking upright, for a lifetime, on two legs! A consequence of evolution!

The current standard 'medical' treatment of thread veins encompasses camouflage make up, laser treatments and sclerotherapy.

The British Red Cross runs a skin camouflage treatment service and has centres around the country, used by patients with port wine birth marks, burns, scarring and thread veins.

Laser therapy can be helpful, but specific lasers must be used (e.g. Pulsed Dye Laser), and the doctor using laser therapy should be highly experienced in it's use. Treatment may be painful and can cause bruising to the treated area for 7 to 14 days. In the right hands laser therapy is effective, but treatment is not freely available in all areas of the UK.

Sclerotherapy is used to treat larger purple thread veins in the legs. It involves injecting a powerful irritant chemical directly into the affected veins, using tiny needles. This causes inflammation within the walls of the affected vein, causing it to collapse.

However, you need to see your doctor for a correct diagnosis. Good luck.

  50. QUESTION:
heater making veins stand out on legs - what is it? how to get rid?
i have this portable radiator that gives out a lot of heat and i always sit next to it with the side of my legs right near it....i've always noticed i get like a hexagon pattern on that exposed part of my leg after sitting near the radiator (like the veins go dark red) but i thought this was only temporary, whilst i was by the heater...however, even when i haven't been near the radiator for days, this pattern's not going away....what is it and is there a way to make it go?

thanks in advance for all advice! :)

    • ANSWER:
its called fireside tartan. it happens when you sit to near heat. it fades eventually to white lines like stretch marks but never actually goes away. as the heat hits the legs it stretches the veins including the little ones which gives it the tartan look. it can happen on face and arms too so be carefull. hope this helps. try to stay away from the fire so as to not make it any worse. rub moisturising cream into the legs to help sooth the veins and cool them down quicker.
