Peripheral vascular disease (PVD) involves damage to or blockage in blood vessels distant from your heart, arteries and peripheral veins. The peripheral arteries and veins to carry blood and muscles of the arm and leg more bodies in the stomach and below the surface. PVD may also affect the arteries leading to his head. The main forms PVD can take include blood clots, swelling (inflammation), or narrowing and blockage of blood vessels.

Hemorrhoids (piles) and varicose veins are common conditions caused by blood collecting in veins and not returning to the heart properly for recycling usually as a result of a weakness in valves in the veins, but also due to an obstruction. Constipation (causing piles) and pregnancy (causing varicose veins) are the usual culprits, however, obesity and physical inactivity, the habitual use of laxatives and long periods of standing have also been blamed. Veins become "lumpy" and visible, as well as pain and itching. Piles also bleed frequently.

It is estimated that 50 percent of adults are affected by hemorrho 00004000 ids at some point in their lives. They often occur during pregnancy (but usually disappear after delivery) and as a result of a cold. Symptoms of the disease are swollen veins around the anus, itching and pain, bleeding and sometimes, when proposals were adopted. The veins can remain inside the anus or rise from it.

Diseases of the arteries can lead to arterial blockade, aortic aneurysms, Buerger's disease and Raynaudss phenomenon. Venous Diseases of veins can lead to blood clots, pulmonary embolism, phlebitis or varicose veins. The blocked artery is similar to coronary arteries; peripheral arteries can become blocked by plaque.

What causes the artery clogging? PVD can result from a condition known as atherosclerosis (a waxy substance forms inside the arteries). This substance is called plaque. It is made of cholesterol, fat, calcium, blood clotting and a material called fibrin.

When enough plaque builds up inside an artery, the artery gets clogged and then the blood flow is either slowing or stopped. Slowed blood flow may cause "ischemia," which means the body's cells are not getting enough oxygen.

While clogged coronary arteries (arteries supplying the heart with blood) can lead to a heart attack and clogged carotid arteries (arteries supplying the head with blood) can lead to a stroke. Clogged peripheral arteries in the lower part, especially cramping and pain in the legs.

Risk factors for atherosclerosis in peripheral arteries are the same of atherosclerosis in coronary arteries. Smoking, diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol is thought to lead to the development of plaque. Patients possibly will feel pain in their calves, thighs or buttocks, depending on where the blockage. Typically, the amount of pain is a sign of how serious is the blocking.

Some Alternative Treatment:
Hot baths and compresses applied to the anus will help relieve pain. Keep the anal part clean by washing with hot water after bowel movements.

Naturopathy - bathing or hot and cold - is recommended and ice packs can help relieve discomfort. Sitting in the water for five to ten minutes is recommended for batteries.

Diet and Nutrition Follow a whole food diet to reduce constipation and ease bowel movements. Drink plenty of water. Take a large spoon flax seeds with water once a day (not meals).

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
How do you get rid of/lessen varicose veins?
I have varicose veins, not spider veins, but lumpy, painful varicose veins. I was wondering if anyone knew how to get rid of or lessen them or if I'll just have to live with them for the rest of my life as they get worse and worse like the doctor said. I'm a white, male, and 28 years old, if that makes a difference. I also know I'm too young to have them, well I do, so I guess I'm not, stupid doctor.

Right now they're not too bad, there's two 1 inch lumps on my right leg and one half inch lump on my left. So if they can be stopped I'm sure the sooner I do the easier it will be.

I have also already sought a second opinion and was told the same thing but in a nicer way. So yes, it is varicose veins.

Thanks in advance for any help provided.

  4. QUESTION:
    swollen calves and extreme pain?
I am 27 years old female.
Problem: about 7 month ago, I started to get huge painful leg cramp with swelling behing my calf the pain was from my knee and extended down into the calf, and was very painful to walk on. It lasted a few days mostly in those moenings. Since then, I have had it every month (ish). But for 3 days now the cramping behind the knee/calf has been fairly continous even during the day and the swellin/cramping is not gettin better. Possibly related to this is that I have had continous leg pain(without cramping) for 4 months now. I do not have a lump behind my knee, though, only sometimes a very slight puffiness/hot feeling and a blue vein is stickin out on the back of 1 calf (not the other one, altho both are hurtin n swolen). The calfs are also somewhat tender/ sore to touch at the back and sides with alot of lumpy type areas....plz someone helpas iv been for a ultrasound week ago but it showedb ok but my legs were ok again at that time x

    • ANSWER:
go back to your doctor and explain all these symptoms. please dont take any blood thinning medication especially aspirin before being seen by your GP.
you may be allergic to it and if you have any blood clotting problems or gastroenteric problems then you may cause more damageit could be a few things and therefore you need a definite diagnosis.

Does this sound like a broken foot ?
I broke my big toe a couple of years ago, and was told at hospital nothing was wrong, even tho my toe was in the wrong place.. oO ? but anyway, had no bother with it since then, but about a week ago it flared up, the pain isnt unbearable just sharp pains up and down my big toe and ankle when i move my foot, little niggles in the knee, also theres a really large vein running across the foot and up the leg, looks like its going the wrong way over the ankle compared to other foot, and the foot is all lumpy on the side of the big toe, The big toe bone is to the right of the toe but its been like that for nearly 4 years, think ive broken it or trapped something ?? or maybe arthritis ??? had some paracetamol and the swelling went down a little but the pain increases........oO ? any advice? tips for treatment ?
